Farmers' Market on Thursdays in August

The Red Wiggler Farm will offer fresh, locally grown produce at the Chapel parking lot again this season.  The farmers' market is scheduled on Thursdays beginning on July 27 and continuing through August 31, from 9 am - 11 am or until all produce is sold. 

Red Wiggler Farm is a mission sponsored by The Chapel and is a nonprofit organization whose main focus is to provide meaningful employment for adults with developmental disabilities. The farm was founded in 1996 and continues to expand its vocational education program and promotion of environmental stewardship each year. 

Financial Seminars Wednesdays, November 8 and 15

Join two financial professionals who will lead us through the maze of financial planning.  Topics to be presented include A Biblical Approach to Financial Security, Reviewing Your Financial Path, and Charitable Giving from A to Z.  No matter what your mindset or financial situation might be, this workshop is designed to help you feel more confident in your own finances.  Learn how to manage money in a way that puts your principles and faith first.  These two sessions will be held on Wednesday, November 8 and 15 at 2:00 pm.

 

Inter-Faith Women's 50th Birthday Party Thursday, June 8

The Inter-Faith Women are celebrating their 50th birthday with a program of history, poetry and music on Thursday, June 8 at 1:30 pm in the fellowship hall.   We will also celebrate the individual birthdays of all the women with cake and ice cream.  Women of all ages are encouraged to come out and join the party, especially you Baby Boomers! Sign up for the party in the Narthex after services on Sunday May 28 or June 4.

Inter-Faith Men: Washington Nationals Baseball on Thursday, July 27

The Inter-Faith Men are planning a trip to Nationals Stadium to cheer on the Nats as they take on the Milwaukee Brewers.  Tickets for this noon ballgame on Thursday, July 27 are $60 per person and include a hot dog and beverage.  Only fifteen tickets are available through the Chapel office and are selling on a first come, first serve basis.  Call the Chapel office at 301-598-5312 to reserve your seat.  Payment must be received by July 21.  Attendees are responsible for their own transportation and car-pool arrangements are being coordinated.

Silent Retreat: October 4

On Wednesday, October 4, we will set aside a day dedicated to silence, beauty and Sabbath rest with a retreat to southern Maryland.  This will be a time to sit quietly near the water, pray, walk, and journal.  We will carpool, leaving the Chapel at 8:00 am and returning by 5:30 pm.  Attendees should bring their own lunch, journal, Bible or other reading material.

Only four spots are open.  Register by September 24.

Fall Harvest Festival October 21

The Born 1942 and After group invites all Chapel members and friends to join us at Baugher's Orchard near Westminster, MD on Saturday, October 21.  Enjoy a full day with a hayride to the pumpkin patch or wagon ride to pick apples in the orchard.  Shop in the farm market or bakery, dine in their family restaurant, and enjoy their fall festival.

The group will meet in the Chapel parking lot at 9:30 am and return at about 3:00 pm.  Drivers are needed, and we will arrange carpools.  The hayride and wagon rides are $2.00 each, payable at the orchard.  You may choose from a number of activities or simply enjoy a beautiful, relaxing fall day. 

The drive to the orchard will take about one hour and 15 minutes each way.  RSVP by Tuesday, October 17.

Winter Coat Drive October 27 - 28

The Inter-Faith Committee for the Homeless and Working Poor will conduct a coat drive on Friday, October 27 and Saturday, October 28 from 9 am - noon.  We are accepting new coats or clean, gently used coats of any size for men, women, and children.  All donated coats will be given to Interfaith Works.  You may drop off your coats under the portico of the Chapel.

How to Improve Your Balance and Prevent Falls on Wednesday, November 1

Many people think that falling is an inevitable part of aging, but research proves that fall risks can be reduced.  This seminar, sponsored by Brooke Grove Retirement Village, will teach you how to prevent falls and give you specific exercises that you can do every day to improve your balance.  This is a repeat of the seminars that were offered in July and September.  Both filled very quickly.

All are invited to this free program on Wednesday, November 1 from 1 pm - 2:30 pm.   Space is limited, get your reservation in early.  The deadline is Wednesday, October 25 but the program may be full before that date.

Rewiring Your Brain Tuesday, November 14

Chaplain Bill Neely of Brooke Grove Retirement Village will address the amazing adaptability of the brain to re-wire itself when change is needed or desired.  Come and learn more about the only container that uniquely holds more the more you put into it.  Chaplain Neely will also share from his new book, The Gift of Criticism. The program will be held on Tuesday, November 14 from 1-2:30 pm.  Please register by Friday, November 10 and let us know if you would like to purchase the book for $15.00.

Power of Music October 18

Learn about the neuroscience behind musical notes, how the brain processes music, and how many consider music one of life's miracles and mysteries.  Discover how music can enhance our ability to learn, to remember, and to create - at any age and in spite of the health challenges we may face.

Our presenter, Jeannie Finnegan, is a Certified Dementia Practitioner.  Brooke Grove Retirement Village is sponsoring this free seminar held on Wednesday, October 18 from 10:00 am - 11:00 am in The Inter-Faith Chapel's fellowship hall. Please register by Friday, October 13.

Advent Study starts Monday, November 27

We will examine Joseph's story which is so much like our own, as we find ourselves in circumstances that we would have never chosen.  Joseph provides us a great example of humbly obeying God even when we do not understand and faithfully moving forward in the strength that God provides. Join Dr. Lee as we study Faithful:  Christmas through the Eyes of Joseph.  The class will meet on Mondays:  November 27, December 4, 11, and 18 at 10:30 am.    You may purchase the text for $14.00.  Register by Friday, November 17.

In Praise of Age Celebration on Sunday, June 11

In celebration of God's gift of aging and the contributions of older adults in our lives and congregation, the Inter-Faith Chapel offers special thanks and praise to God for those who are 90 years of age and older.  We will recognize their faith, wisdom, energy, commitment and contribution in our worship services on Sunday, June 11.

If you or an affiliate you know is 90 years of age or older or celebrating their 90th birthday in 2017, please contact the Chapel office at 301-598-5312 by June 2 so that we may recognize you.

We will recognize our special guests at both the 9 am and 11 am services on Sunday, June 11 and enjoy a time of refreshment and fellowship at a 10:15 am reception.

Order Christmas poinsettias

During the Christmas season, you may remember a loved one or honor someone special by ordering a beautiful red poinsettia in his/her name.  The December 24 10:00 am bulletin will include your dedication. Each plant is available for $10.00 and will adorn The Chapel from December 17 - 24.  After you submit this form, you may pay on the Giving tab of the website, marking your payment as a flower dedication or mail a check. You may take your plant home after the 6 pm service on Sunday, December 24.

Let's Go Caroling on December 10!

Do you want to get in the Christmas spirit and spread Christmas cheer to others?  All are invited to join Those Born 1942 and After on Sunday, December 10 as we go caroling to friends who can no longer come to worship.  We will leave The Chapel at 3:00 pm and caravan to each location. Afterwards, we will gather for cookies, hot cocoa and fellowship back at the church.   All are welcome - whether you can sing in the choir or just hum along!  RSVP below by December 5.

Born 1942 and After Group: Movie Night Friday, August 18

On Friday, August 18, the Chapel Born 1942 and After Group will be joining Jake and Elroy Blues on a mission from God.  We'll cheer them on and sing and dance along as we watch the cult classic movie The Blues Brothers.   All are welcome to attend this fun event.  Be there at 7 pm in the Fellowship Hall for light refreshments and comradery.  RSVP no later than Monday, August 14.  Payment of $5.00 per person is due when you respond.  You may pay online and note that it is for the movie or you may drop off your payment in the Chapel office.

Order Easter Flowers by March 26

Please complete the form below if you want to dedicate Easter flowers in honor or in memory of loved ones.   Pay by going to the Giving tab on the website and noting that the donation is for flowers.  You may also mail in your payment or drop it off in the office.  You may take your flowers home after the 11 am service on Easter Sunday, April 1.

Christian Creeds: Spring Bible Study Starts on May 3

This study will explore not only what Christians believe, but also why we believe and why it matters.  We will examine the Apostles' Creed, one of the earliest statements of foundational Christian beliefs, along with our creeds.

This class will be facilitated by Bill Pailen and will meet on Wednesdays for six weeks at 2:00 pm beginning on May 3.  To register, please complete the form below by Wednesday, April 26.

 

Book Club January 26

The Born 1942 and After group invites all Chapel members and friends to read and discuss Wonder, a New York Times best-selling book and current movie.  Wonder  tells the inspiring and heartwarming story of a boy with facial differences who enters school in 5th grade and includes a message of kindness, friendship and acceptance.  

The group will meet on Friday, January 26 at 7:00 pm to enjoy fellowship, refreshments and a book discussion. Respond by submitting form below by Monday, January 22 if you would like to attend. 

Wednesday Lenten Worship Services

We will gather as the body of Christ on Wednesdays during Lent at 12:00 pm for a series of special worship services.   Our time of worship will start at 11:45 am with a meditative organ prelude by Holly Oberle.

A special time of fellowship, Our Soup, Your Sandwich, will serve as our lunch time immediately following these mid-week services.  We will provide the soup and you bring a sandwich.  A $2.00 per person donation is requested.

Book Club meets on March 21 at 7:00 pm to discuss The Leisure Seeker

The Born 1942 and After group invites all Chapel members and friends to a book club discussion of The Leisure Seeker, a novel by Michael Zadoorian.  In the book, the Robinas have shared a wonderful life for more than sixty years.  Now in their eighties, Ella suffers from cancer and John has Alzheimer's.  Yearning for one last adventure, the self-proclaimed "down-on-their luck geezers" kidnap themselves from the adult children and doctors who seem to run their lives and steal away from their home in suburban Detroit on a forbidden vacation of rediscovery.
