Mindful Meditation starts February 19

Terrie Daniels, senior fitness and wellness specialist at Brooke Grove Retirement Village, will present a series of Mindful Meditation classes on Monday, February 19 through Monday, March 26 from 10:00 - 10:30 am.  The sessions will promote greater focus, reduced anxiety, increased compassion, and improved well-being.  

The fee for all six sessions is $25, payable by check to Brooke Grove Foundation.  You may mail your check to the Chapel or drop it off.  Space is limited and payment in advance is required to hold your space.

Advent Lessons and Carols: Sunday, December 18

You are invited to join The Chapel on Sunday, December 18 at 10:00 am for a Service of Nine Lessons and Carols.  The Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols was made famous by the Christmas Eve Service at King College Chapel, Cambridge.  The service was first broadcast by the British Broadcasting Corporation in 1928 and continues today. The service combines scripture and music to tell the story of the expectation and birth of Christ.

The story of the fall of humanity, the promise of the Messiah, and the birth of Jesus is told in nine short scripture readings from Genesis, Isaiah, and the gospels.  Christmas carols will include It Came Upon the Midnight Clear, Away in a Manger, The First Noel, and Angels We Have Heard on High.

Getting Your Life in Order Workshop: May 3

One of the greatest gifts you can give your loved ones is the gift of having your end of life issues in order.  On Wednesday, May 3 from 10:00 am - noon in the Fellowship Hall, we will hold a workshop to focus on getting our affairs organized.

Information will include financial planning, memorial/funeral service planning, appointment of health care agent, hospice care, cemeteries, and numerous other important topics.  A resource notebook is available for a $10.00 donation. Please RSVP by completing this form by April 26.

Born 1942 and After: Movie Trivia Night on February 17

Taste of Cuba: March 23

You are invited to our Taste of Cuba!  Enjoy Cuban music and food and learn about Cuban culture, growing churches, and vibrant worship services.  Dr. Ramonia Lee, along with Arlene and Harry Brooke, will share their recent travel experiences.

Advance registration and prepayment of $5.00 per person are required by March 19.  This event is sponsored by the Interfaith Women and all are invited.

Born 1942 and After: Dinner on March 24

Our chapel Baby Boomers (those Born 1942 and After) are invited to a meatless Lenten dinner on Friday, March 24 at 7:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall followed by a chapel search. (In other words, a reverent scavenger hunt!)  We’ll be searching for items and critters in all of our stained glass windows and for items in the sacristy and throughout the Chapel.

Dinner will include vegetable lasagna, bread, and salad and will cost $5.00 per person.  Guests do not need to bring any food to share.

Fun, Food and Friends on January 12

All Chapel members and friends are invited to come to the fellowship hall on Thursday, January 12 from 1:00 - 3:00 pm.  We will have an afternoon of fellowship, visiting with one another, games, and snacks.  Food will be provided.  Please bring your favorite board games or cards.

Souper Bowl of Caring: Let's Tackle Hunger on February 5!

While the two best teams in the NFL battle, we will be participating in the Souper Bowl of Caring to help the hungry in our community.  Please bring canned soup or drop a cash donation into the empty soup kettle when you attend worship on Sunday, February 5.  Donations will be shared with one of our Missions' food banks serving those in need.

Biblical Creation Course starts February 6

We will study the account of creation recorded in the Book of Genesis beginning on Monday, February 6 at 10:30 am and ending on Monday, March 6.  The class will not meet on Monday, February 20 due to Presidents' Day. The course will be taught by George Samara, a new Leisure World resident, who has taught this course for 25 years.

Thanksgiving Eve Service: Wednesday, November 23

All are welcome to attend our annual Thanksgiving Eve service held at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, November 23.  The service will include Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, The Inter-Faith Chapel, the Unitarian-Universalists of Leisure World, and the Jewish Residents of Leisure World, as we gather to give thanks for all our blessings with a service of music and the spoken word.  An offering of non-perishable food and monetary donations will be taken to benefit local food banks.

Interfaith Film Festival: Wednesday, January 18

From the Academy Award-winning creators of Disney-Pixar's Finding Nemo comes an epic undersea adventure filled with imagination, humor and heart. Dory, the forgetful blue tang, suddenly remembers she has a family who may be looking for her.  Dory Marlin and Nemo take off on a life-changing quest to find them with help from Hank, a cantankerous octopus; Bailey, a beluga whale who's convinced his biological sonar skills are on the fritz; and Destiny, a nearsighted whale shark. 

All are welcome to attend this free event on Wednesday, January 18 at 1:00 pm. Tickets and RSVPs are not required.  After the movie, we will discuss the universal themes, including optimism, celebrating differences in ability, and perseverance.

Winning Life's Toughest Battles: May 9

All are invited to attend a presentation by Peak Performance Coach and ordained minister Rev. Bill Neely, Chaplain of Brooke Grove Retirement Village.  Rev. Neely will explore the distinguishing characteristics of those who survive traumatizing situations and focus on ways to shape or reshape suffering in order to flourish.  The presentation is based on the book Winning Life's Toughest Battles by Dr. Julius Segal.  Dr. Segal's book provides a powerful guide to anyone facing crises of everyday life.

This program is free and will be held from 1:00 - 2:00 pm in the fellowship hall.   Please RSVP by Friday, May 5.
